SUMMARY:Day with the Gospel of Mark
DESCRIPTION:Presented by Dr. Peter Judge\nThe Gospel According to Mark is the shortest of the New Testament Gospels and thought by most Gospel scholars to have been the first written. It also appears to have provided a model for the others. We’ll hear proclamations from Mark throughout Liturgical Year B. This session will help us get familiar with Mark’s unique features, particularly this Gospel’s focus more on Jesus’ actions than his teaching, its theology of the cross, and its surprising open-ended conclusion.\nIn the summer of Year B, we also have a long stretch of Sundays when we hear from Jesus’ “Bread of Life” discourse in John 6. We’ll also spend time in our session on this unique passage.\nAbout the Presenter\nPeter Judge is Professor Emeritus of Religion and former Interim Provost at Winthrop University, Rock Hill. He holds the PhD in Religious Studies from the Catholic University of Louvain, Belgium, with a concentration in Biblical Studies and particularly the study of the Gospels. His writings and reviews have appeared in scholarly journals and collections, and he has written recently for the popular The Bible Today.\nDate: Thursday, November 19th, 2026\nTime: 9am–12pm\nLocation: Center for Spirituality at The Oratory\nSuggested donation: $30\n
