Francis’ Interpretation of Gaudium et Spes in Times of Trouble

This talk will address Pope Francis’s interpretation of the Vatican II document, The Pastoral Constitution on the Church in the Modern World, throughout his pontificate, in the context of a difficult ecclesial and international situation. Francis’ use of Gaudium et Spes helps us understand the complexity of Vatican II and of that document in particular.

Massimo Faggioli is Professor of Theology and Religious Studies at Villanova University. An expert on the history and administrative workings of the Catholic Church, he writes and speaks extensively on the papacy and Vatican II.
