40TH CARDINAL NEWMAN LECTURE
40TH CARDINAL NEWMAN LECTURE
St. John Henry Newman: Vatican II’s Prophet
Presented by Sr. Maureen Sullivan, OP
Saturday, October 3, 2020 – 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
Saint John Henry Newman: Vatican II’s Prophet Old Testament prophets were not fortune tellers. Rather, they were men who spoke on God’s behalf. They were bringers of hope. Reform is at the heart of every prophet’s message, and their task was to translate God’s covenantal promise into concrete actions. These insights provide the foundation for this lecture. Although separated by more than a century, Newman had a profound influence on the Second Vatican Council. This lecture will examine Newman’s prophetic instincts and his relationship to Vatican II.
Maureen Sullivan is a Dominican Sister of Hope from New York, with a Ph.D. from Fordham University. She is a nationally known speaker and author of two books on Vatican II. She will be sharing her knowledge and passion for this important chapter in our church’s history and its relationship to the Oratory’s most recent saint.
This year’s lecture will be presented on-line via Zoom. Please provide an email address so the invitation and link can be sent to you. For more information or to register contact oratorycenter@gmail.com
