Last week, The Oratory welcomed participants to its Annual Summer Bible Institute for four days of Scripture study led by two nationally respected biblical scholars, guided prayer, and daily Mass. A longstanding tradition at The Oratory, the Summer Bible Institute has been enriching participants through the study of Scripture for decades. The program featured morning and afternoon sessions each day, with time between sessions to stroll The Oratory’s beautiful grounds and prayer gardens, attend Mass and enjoy lunch together.
Sister Barbara Reid, O.P., former president of Catholic Theological Union in Chicago and a renowned New Testament scholar, presented on the parables of mercy and justice in the Gospel of Matthew.
Father Edward Mazich, O.S.B., Rector of Saint Vincent College Seminary and an accomplished Scripture scholar, explored lessons from the life of Israel’s great king, David, and their fulfillment in Jesus Christ, the Son of David.
A special highlight of the week was Sr. Barbara’s Monday evening presentation for the Latino community, which welcomed more than 60 participants for an evening of Scripture and fellowship.
The Summer Bible Institute is one of many programs offered through the Center for Spirituality, a ministry of Rock Hill Oratory. Grounded in the spirit of St. Philip Neri, the Center offers hospitality and a variety of programs for the enrichment of all people who are seeking to grow spiritually.
Plans are already underway for the Summer Bible Institute 2027, scheduled for July 12–15, 2027. Be sure to visit The Oratory’s Events page for updates and upcoming programs.
