The Rock Hill Oratory Center for Spirituality welcomed a wonderful gathering of attendees on Saturday, October 17, for the annual Cardinal Newman Lecture.
This year’s guest speaker, Dr. Bernadette Waterman Ward of the University of Dallas, presented “Supernatural Imagination in Newman and Hopkins: The Mind’s Road to God.”
Dr. Ward offered an insightful and engaging presentation exploring the writings of St. John Henry Newman and poet Gerard Manley Hopkins. Through her reflections, she helped participants gain a deeper understanding of the connections between imagination, spirituality, emotions, and faith. A thoughtful discussion followed, providing an opportunity for further reflection and questions.
Following the lecture, attendees gathered in the Oratory Chapel for noon Mass, celebrated by Fr. Joe Pearce, C.O., with beautiful music provided by Linda Liberty and Jeane Cassidy.
The day concluded with a delicious lunch and an opportunity for fellowship, bringing a wonderful program to a close.
The Rock Hill Oratory Center for Spirituality extends its sincere gratitude to Dr. Ward, Fr. Joe, our musicians, and everyone who joined us for this special event.
The annual Cardinal Newman Lecture continues a tradition that began in 1981, offering an opportunity for spiritual enrichment, learning, and community.
