Prophecy in the Body
What is the role of the body in biblical prophecy, and how is that relevant for Christian spirituality today? Prophetic narratives include the prophets’ embodied experience of divine encounter, prophetic calling, and transformation. Prophets do not only write: they move, feel and heal. We will reflect on how the biblical texts model and invite embodied encounter and transformation for us and our communities today.
Anathea Portier-Young is Associate Professor of Old Testament at Duke University Divinity School, where she has taught since 2003. She has a Ph.D. in Religion from Duke as well as degrees from the Graduate Theological Union and Yale. The author of numerous articles and books, she has received many awards and honors.

On the Way: Encountering the Acts of the Apostles
Place is important to the third evangelist. Luke’s story of Jesus begins in the Temple of Jerusalem, travels to Bethlehem, circles Galilee, and finally returns to Jerusalem. His second volume, The Acts of the Apostles, is equally concerned with geography and, in fact, describes believers as “people of the Way”. These presentations will map the mission of the Early Church, according to Luke, from “Jerusalem, in all of Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth” (Acts 1:8).
Laurie Brink is a Sinsinawa Dominican and Professor of New Testament Studies at Catholic Theological Union. She is New Testament Book Review Editor for The Bible Today and has authored numerous books and articles. She is keenly interested in promoting biblical literacy and has given presentations throughout the U.S and in many parts of the world.
