From David to the Son of David:
Lessons from Israel’s Great King
King David is a central figure in the history of Israel and in the history of salvation. With all his strengths and weaknesses, he serves as both an inspiration to zealous devotion to the Lord and as a warning against hubris and temptation in the course of our spiritual journeys.
Coming to understand David and have sympathy for him in the midst of his triumphs and tragedies – yet remaining prudent in our assessment of David’s flaws that caused those tragedies – will help us to negotiate our own path of discipleship as followers of Jesus, the Son of David.
Edward Mazich is a monk of St. Vincent Archabbey and the Rector of St. Vincent College Seminary in Latrobe, Pennsylvania. With degrees from the Pontifical Institute and Gregorian University in Rome and Oxford University, he has taught Scripture and written both academic and popular works. He also currently serves as an Associate editor for The Bible Today.

Parables of Mercy and Justice in the Gospel of Matthew
In the Gospel of Matthew, Jesus exemplifies God’s mercy as the pathway to justice; that is, promoting right relationship with God, others, and the whole of creation. He teaches his disciples to do the same. One of his primary vehicles for teaching is through parables. In these sessions, we will explore parables that are unique to Matthew’s Gospel.
Barbara Reid is a Dominican Sister of Grand Rapids, Michigan, and former President of Catholic Theological Union (CTU) in Chicago, where she continues to teach New Testament Studies. She is an award-winning author, editor and speaker and has led retreats and study programs in a variety of Biblical lands.
