The Rock Hill Oratory Center for Spirituality welcomed back Carl McColman for his annual retreat, Spirituality Beyond the Basics, held October 30–31, 2026.
Carl has been coming to The Oratory since 2012, sharing his knowledge and insights on Christian spirituality through his retreats and presentations.
During this year’s retreat, Carl explored ways to deepen our spiritual lives through prayer and by opening our hearts to the presence of the Holy Spirit. He discussed the different types and dimensions of prayer, drawing inspiration from the lives and spiritual teachings of St. Teresa of Ávila, St. Ignatius of Loyola, Julian of Norwich, Thomas Merton and more.
The retreat brought together participants from various parts of South Carolina and North Carolina, representing different Christian denominations. It was a wonderful opportunity for reflection, spiritual growth, and fellowship as participants explored ways to strengthen their relationship with God.
The peaceful grounds of The Oratory provided a beautiful setting for prayer, quiet reflection and spiritual renewal.
We are grateful to Carl for another inspiring retreat and to everyone who joined us for this special weekend!
We look forward to welcoming Carl back to The Oratory next fall as he continues his annual tradition of sharing his wisdom and love of Christian spirituality with our community.
